Women's Tennis Falls at Suffolk

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Suffolk University women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season as the Rams defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 7-2, in a non-conference match played at Buckingham Browne & Nichols.

With the win the Rams improve to 1-4 on the season while the Leopards slip to 3-8.

Suffolk swept all three doubles matches as Adrianna Garrett and Aidiana Sagyndykova defeated junior Caitlin Corcoran (Brockton, Mass.) and freshman Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.), 8-6, at number one. Isabel Rathlev and Jacqueline Nakamura took a 9-7 win over freshman Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I.) and senior Stephanie Nguyen (Medford, Mass.) at number three, and Rebecca Eshoo teamed with Abby Trigilio to take an 8-5 win over juniors Laura Boyd (Woodstock, Vt.) and Nicole Mooney (Waterford, Conn.).

Briggs gave Wentworth its first point with a 6-3, 6-0 win at number two singles before Rebecca Eshoo's 6-2, 6-3 win over Jodoin at number three extended the lead to 4-1. Sagyndykova clinched the match for the Rams with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Corcoran at number one.

Nakamura defeated Boyd at number four, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3), Lyndsay Reese bested Nguyen, 6-2, 6-3, at number six, and Mooney outlasted Trigilio at number five, 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (12-10).

Both teams play next on Saturday as Wentworth is at Salve Regina and Suffolk hosts the University of St. Joseph.
