NEWPORT, R.I. – Paced by a sweep of the doubles matches, the Salve Regina University women's tennis team picked up its second straight win as the Seahawks defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.

With the win the Seahawks improve to 4-2 overall as well as 4-2 in CCC play while the Leopards drop their second straight to fall to 3-9 (2-5).

Seniors Elizabeth DiFilippo (West Chester, Pa.) and Meg Olson (Colchester, Vt.) claimed an 8-3 win at second doubles over juniors Laura Boyd (Woodstock, Vt.) and Nicole Mooney (Waterford, Conn.). Sophomore Taylor Amendola (Westbrook, Conn.) and freshman Courtney Bailey (North Dartmouth, Mass.) took an 8-5 victory at third doubles over freshman Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I.) and senior Stephanie Nguyen (Medford, Mass.) before senior Hayley Maxwell (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) and sophomore Emma Gruber's (New Canaan, Conn.) rallied from a 7-6 deficit to defeat freshman Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) and junior Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.), 9-7, at number one doubles.

Bailey defeated Boyd, 6-2, 6-1, at number four before DiFilippo defeated Briggs, 6-1, 6-2, at number two to clinch the match for Salve Regina.

Amendola defeated Jodoin, 6-4, 6-1, at number three, Gruber earned a 6-1, 6-4 win over McColgan at number one, and junior Julie Grant (Warwick, R.I.) picked up a 7-5, 6-0 win over Nguyen. Wentworth's lone point of the day came at number five when Mooney dropped the first set against junior Isabelle Weatherby (Newport, R.I.), 6-7 (3-7) before forcing a tiebreaker with a 6-4 win in the second set. In the tiebreaking set, Mooney was victorious, 10-7.

Salve Regina hosts Endicott on Wednesday while Wentworth closes out the regular season next Saturday at Western New England.
