Corcoran, Briggs Named All-CCC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Eight different institutions that sponsor women's tennis from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) were represented on the 2014 All-CCC Women's Tennis Team.  In addition to the all-conference team, four major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award winner were selected.

Endicott College senior Amy Heacox was named CCC Player of the Year and Nichols College freshman Alanna Judd was recognized as the CCC Rookie of the Year.  Roger Williams University senior Alexandra Brown was selected as the CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Endicott's Jeremy Howard was honored as CCC Coach of the Year.  Eastern Nazarene College and Western New England University were selected as recipients of the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Voting for the All-CCC team and the major awards was conducted among CCC head women's tennis coaches.

Wentworth Institute of Technology junior Caitlin Corcoran (Brockton, Mass.) was named Second Team All-CCC and teamed with freshman Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) to earn honorable mention accolades in doubles play.

This marks the third season Corcoran has been honored by the league as she was the 2012 CCC Rookie of the Year, has been named second team all-league at singles in each of her first three seasons, and has been part of an honorable mention doubles tandem the last three seasons. This season she posted a 6-5 record, which included a 6-4 mark at number one singles. For her career she has a 20-16 record in singles play and has won 17 doubles matches.

Briggs and Corcoran posted a 4-2 record at number one doubles, which included going 3-1 in conference matches. Briggs played with a total of four different doubles partners over the course of the season and won five matches. In singles play, she played most of her matches at number three where she posted a 5-5 record and was 6-7 in all singles matches.

Under second-year head coach Erin Phillips, Wentworth finished the season with a 3-10 record. The Leopards narrowly missed qualifying for the CCC Tournament with a 2-6 mark.
