Women's Tennis Wraps Up Spring Season

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team concluded its 2014-2015 season by participating in the Beacons Invitational, held on Sunday at Boston College High School.

In the four-team event the Leopards scored 4.5 points to finish second, behind Regis' six points and ahead of host UMass Boston (3.5 points) and Clark (two points). One point was awarded per main draw win and a half of point was awarded for a consolation draw win.

Wentworth entered a pair of players in singles competition with freshman Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) falling, 6-2, 6-3, to Clark's Isabelle Long in the quarterfinals and dropping a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Regis' Jessie Lord. Junior Caitlin Corcoran (Brockton, Mass.) won the singles competition as she defeated Clark's Misa Mai, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals, won against Lord in the semifinals (6-3, 7-5), and captured the title with a 7-6 (10-7), 6-3 win over Long in the finals.

The doubles tandem of juniors Laura Boyd (Woodstock, Vt.) and Nicole Mooney (Waterford, Conn.) fell in the quarterfinals to UMass Boston's Vicky Woytowicz and Kathleen Conroy, while freshman Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I.) and junior Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.) were defeated by Regis' Jewel Medeiros and Amy DiPace, 9-7.

Both pairs battled through the consolation bracket with Boyd and Mooney defeating Clark's Rebecca Kravetz and Stephanie Gallant, 8-5, and Jodoin and McColgan making quick work of Clark's Emma Coppes and Bichtron Nguyen, 8-0. That set up an all-Wentworth consolation final with Jodoin and McColgan winning, 8-3.
