Women's Tennis Falls to Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – The Gordon College women's tennis team swept all three doubles matches and picked up five wins in singles play as the Fighting Scots defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 8-1, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match.

With the win Gordon improves to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in CCC play while the Leopards fall to 2-6 (0-5).

Freshman Justine Hanson (Meadow Vista, Calif.) and sophomore Katherine Jeffreys (Parkton, Md.) won at No. 2 doubles, 8-0, over Leopard senior Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Ellen Butts (Brookfield, Mass.). At No. 3 doubles, senior Lily Drescher (Reading, Mass.) and freshman Gabrielle Brucker (Eleva, Wis.) defeated senior Nicole Mooney (Waterford, Conn.) and freshman Kelsey DeGouveia (New Bedford, Mass.), 8-0, before freshman Abagail Denney (Peoria, Ariz.) and senior Tawnie Yaw (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) defeated sophomore Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) and Emily Jodoin, 8-1, at No. 1.

Singles play saw Denney defeat Briggs, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 and Yaw clinch the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over McColgan at No. 2. Jeffreys earned 6-0, 6-1 decision over Jodoin at No. 3, junior Abby Caron (Bedford, N.H.) defeated Mooney, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4, sophomore Alexa DiDomizio (Mahwah, N.J.) was victorious over Butts at No. 5 (6-1, 6-2) before DeGouveia picked up Wentworth's lone point with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win over junior Haley Bean (Trumbull, Conn.) at No. 6.

Wentworth hosts Suffolk Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
