Women's Tennis Cruises Past Curry

MILTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team snapped a three-match losing streak and picked up its first Commonwealth Coast Conference win of the season with an 8-1 triumph over Curry in a match played at the Big Nine Courts.

With the win the Leopards improve to 3-7 overall and 1-5 in CCC play while the Colonels fall to 3-7 (0-6).

The Leopards swept doubles play as sophomore Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) and Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I.) took an 8-6 win over junior Kayla Prete (Orange, Conn.) and senior Kimberly Love (Windsor Locks, Conn.) at No. 1. At No. 2, senior Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman Ellen Butts (Brookfield, Mass.) defeated senior Hannah Erickson (Mount Desert, Maine) and freshman Katelyn Harrington (Westport, Mass.), 8-6. Senior Nicole Mooney (Waterford, Conn.) and freshman Kelsey DeGouveia (New Bedford, Mass.) completed the sweep with an 8-3 win at No. 3 over sophomore Laura Ferris (Shelton, Conn.) and junior Gabriella Tedeschi (East Greenwich, R.I.).

Briggs defeated Prete at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1, Jodoin defeated Erickson, 7-5, 10-6, at No. 3, Butts defeated Ferris, 7-6, 10-7, at No. 4, DeGouveia defeated Harrington, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 5, and sophomore Sam Webb (Westminster, Md.) bested sophomore Alexandra Moschetto (Hampton Falls, N.H.), 6-4, 6-4, at No. 6.

Curry picked up its lone point of the match at No. 2 when Love defeated McColgan, 6-2, 6-1.

Wentworth hosts Johnson & Wales on Monday afternoon.
