Women's Tennis Defeated by Johnson & Wales

BOSTON, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales women's tennis team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 8-1, in a non-conference contest played at Harvard University's Beren Tennis Center.

With the win the Wildcats improve to 7-1 on the season while the Leopards fall to 3-8.

Johnson & Wales swept the three doubles flights as senior Emily Glass (Sterling, Conn.) teamed with freshman Delaney Macchirole (Greenport, N.Y.) to win at No. 2, 8-3, over the Wentworth tandem of senior Nicole McColgan (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman Ellen Butts (Brookfield, Mass.). At No. 3, sophomore Taylor Klein (Johnson, N.Y.) and junior Samantha Gambino (Middletown, Conn.) defeated freshman Kelsey DeGouveia (New Bedford, Mass.) and senior Nicole Mooney (Waterford, Conn.) No. 1 doubles saw junior Morgan Thompson (Fargo, N.D.) and freshman Victoria Pizzulo (Lafayette, N.J.) took an 8-4 decision over sophomores Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) and Emily Jodoin (Burrillville, R.I.).

Klein defeated Jodoin, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 singles before Thompson's 6-0, 6-3 win over Briggs at No. 1 sealed the match. Glass bested McColgan, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2, Macchirole defeated Butts at No. 5, 6-3, 6-1, and Gambino defeated DeGouveia, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6. Wentworth picked up its only point of the match at No. 4 when Mooney defeated Pizzulo, 6-3, 6-3.

Wentworth closes out its home schedule on Wednesday against Western New England. Johnson & Wales is at Anna Maria on Saturday.
