Women's Tennis Defeated by Eastern Nazarene

WESTON, Mass. – The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team raced out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back as the Lions defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 7-2, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match played at Regis College.

With the win the Lions improve to 2-0 on the season and 2-0 in league play while the Leopards fall to 0-3 (0-2).

Eastern Nazarene picked up wins at No.2 doubles as junior Adele Duval (Reading, Calif.) and senior Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) defeated seniors Sam Webb (Duxbury, Mass.) and Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.), 8-2; freshman Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) teamed with freshman Emily Rutkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) for an 8-3 win at No. 1 over freshman Ali Sollecito (Taunton, Mass.) and junior Ellen Butts (Brookfield, Mass.); and senior Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) and sophomore Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) picked up an 8-6 win at No. 3 over sophomore Sam McGibbon (Pembroke, Mass.) and senior Mackenzie Jones (Granville, Mass.).

Rutkowski extended the lead to 4-0 when she defeated Briggs, 6-0, 6-1, at No.2 singles before McGibbon got Wentworth on the bard with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6. Cressman clinched the match for the Lions with a 6-1, 6-2 win over sophomore Jasmine Andrade (Dorchester, Mass.) at No. 5; Duval defeated Webb, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 3; and Steelman defeated Butts at No. 4, 6-0, 6-4. Sollecito improved her record to 3-0 as she rallied to defeat Biondi at No. 1, 4-6, 7-5, 10-8.

Wentworth is at Endicott on Wednesday.
