Women's Tennis Doubled up at Simmons

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) teamed with classmate Sam Webb (Duxbury, Mass.) to win at No. 2 doubles while Briggs and freshman Ali Sollecito (Taunton, Mass.) picked up singles wins at No. 2 and No. 1, respectively, in the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team's 6-3 loss to Simmons.

Briggs and Webb got the Leopards on the board with their 8-4 win over Nickie Nguyen and Marissa Johnson. The Sharks evened the match at 1-all when Paola Rios and Celia Speth defeated sophomore Sam McGibbon (Pembroke, Mass.) and junior Veronica Monteiro (North Andover, Mass.), 8-4, at No. 3. Jessica Schroedl and Olivia Lakes gave the hosts a 2-1 lead at the end of doubles play with an 8-6 win over junior Ellen Butts (Brookfield, Mass.) and Sollecito at No. 1.

Sollecito evened the match at 2-all with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Schroedl at No. 1 singles, however, Simmons took a 4-2 lead with wins at No. 3 and No. 5. At No. 3 Johnson defeated Webb, 6-4, 6-2, and, at No. 5, Speth defeated McGibbon, 7-5, 6-1. Briggs brought the Leopards back within a point with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Nguyen at No. 2, however, Maria Medici cinched the match with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 win over Butts at No. 4. Elise Kenney defeated Monteiro, 62-, 2-6, 6-4, at No. 6.

Wentworth (0-5) hosts Western New England on Tuesday night.
