Suffolk Pulls Away From Women's Tennis

NORTH READING, Mass. – Freshman Ali Sollecito (Taunton, Mass.) ran her No. 1 singles record to 5-1 on the year and also picked up a win at No. 1 doubles, however the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Suffolk University in a match played at North Reading High School.

Sollecito and junior Ellen Butts (Brookfield, Mass.) gave the Leopards a 1-0 lead with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles over senior Isabel Rathlev (Wellesley, Mass.) and junior Elena Cisneros Garcia (Barcelona, Spain). The Rams took wins at No. 3 and No. 2 doubles with junior Megan French (Newton, N.H.) and senior Jacquelyn Nakamura (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) winning at No. 3, 8-6, over sophomore Sam McGibbon (Pembroke, Mass.) and senior Mackenzie Jones (Granville, Mass.) and junior Delaney Dunlap (Hingham, Mass.) and sophomore Keely Hardy (Charleston, S.C.) winning at No. 2, 9-7, over seniors Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) and Sam Webb (Duxbury, Mass.).

Briggs evened the match at 2-all with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Rathlev at No. 2 singles, however French gave Suffolk a 3-2 lead as she defeated sophomore Jasmine Andrade (Dorchester, Mass.), 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5. Sollecito tied the match for the fourth time with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Dunlap at No. 1. Hardy gave the Rams the lead for good with a 6-3, 6-2 win over junior Ellen Butts (Brookfield, Mass.) at No. 4 before sophomore Danlyn Medou (Inglewood, Calif.) clinched the match with a 6-1, 7-5 win over McGibbon at No. 6. Cisneros Garcia closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Webb at No. 3.

Wentworth (0-6) hosts Salve Regina on Saturday.
