Roger Williams Tops Women's Tennis

MILTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team notched its second straight win as the Hawks defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 9-0, in Commonwealth Play at Curry College on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win the Hawks improve to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in league play while the Leopards fall to 1-8 (1-4).

Sophomore Taryn Roche (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and freshman Morgan Crimmins (Boston, Mass.) picked up an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles over sophomore Sam McGibbon (Pembroke, Mass.) and senior Mackenzie Jones (Granville, Mass.). Senior Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) and freshman Heidi Martin (Scituate, Mass.) won at No. 1 over freshman Ali Sollecito (Taunton, Mass.) and junior Ellen Butts (Brookfield, Mass.). Roger Williams took a 3-0 lead when senior Ali Stankiewicz (Brunswick, Maine) and sophomore Jessica Magliato (New Rochelle, N.Y.) won at No. 2, 8-4, over seniors Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) and Sam Webb (Duxbury, Mass.).

Magliato defeated sophomore Jasmine Andrade, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 before Martin's 6-1, 6-0 win over McGibbon at No. 6 clinched the match for the Hawks. Sophomore Riley Spillane (Easton, Mass.) defeated Butts, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4, Roche defeated Briggs, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2, Riley defeated Webb, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3, and Stankiewicz defeated Sollecito, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1

Wentworth is at Nichols on Saturday. Roger Williams is back in action tomorrow, hosting Worcester State.
