Women's Tennis Halts Losing Streak

MILTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team took a 2-1 lead after doubles play and never looked back as the Leopards defeated Curry, 6-3, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Big Nine Courts.

With the win Wentworth halts a three-match losing streak and improves to 2-9 overall (2-5 CCC) while the Colonels fall to 1-11 (0-7).

Curry recorded the first point of the match as freshman April Miller (Newton, N.H.) teamed with classmate Samantha Gilbert (Bedford, Mass.) to take an 8-0 win over sophomore Jasmine Andrade (Dorchester, Mass.) and senior Mackenzie Jones (Granville, Mass.) at No. 3. At No. 2, freshman Ali Sollecito (Taunton, Mass.) and sophomore Sam McGibbon (Pembroke, Mass.) defeated freshman Sidira Cash-Sortwell (South Portland, Maine) and freshman Alexandra Petrucci (Wakefield, R.I.), 8-1. Seniors Caitlyn Briggs (Lee, Mass.) and Sam Webb (Duxbury, Mass.) gave the visitors the 2-1 lead with an 8-4 win over sophomore Alexis Mclea-Perry (Plymouth, Mass.) and sophomore Stephanie Leblanc (East Bridgewater, Mass.).

McGibbon defeated Miller, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles to make it 3-1 before junior Rosario Robidoux (Agawam, Mass.) used a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jones at No. 6 to make it 3-2. Briggs bested Mclea-Perry, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 which gave Wentworth a 4-2 lead before Sollecito clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Cash-Sortwell at No. 1. Webb used a 6-2, 6-2 win over Leblanc at No. 3 to round out the Leopards' scoring while freshman Alison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.) defeated Andrade, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4.

Wentworth is at Lesley on Wednesday night.
