Suffolk Cruises Past Women's Tennis

WINCHESTER, Mass. – Sophomore Ali Sollecito (Taunton, Mass.) picked up her first victory of the season to provide the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team with its lone point in an 8-1 loss to Suffolk.

The Rams swept doubles play with freshman Kendall Smith (Stuttgart, Germany) and freshman Jordan Miller (East Longmeadow, Mass.) giving the hosts a 1-0 lead with an 8-1 win over freshman Kirsten Granajo (Boston, Mass.) and sophomore CiCi Deakin (Standish, Maine) at No. 3. Senior Elena Cisneros Garcia (Barcelona, Spain) and senior Megan French (Newton, N.H.) made it 2-0 with an 8-2 win over sophomore Hannah Erickson (Columbia, Conn.) and junior Olivia DeLuca (Dracut, Mass.) at No. 2. Sollecito and senior Ellen Butts (Brookfield, Mass.) were narrowly defeated at No. 1, 8-6, by senior Delaney Dunlap (Hingham, Mass.) and freshman Ilda Ascic.

Miller defeated Granajo, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles before French bested Erickson by the same score at No. 5 to clinch the match. Smith defeated Deakin at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0, Cisneros Garcia defeated DeLuca, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3, while Ascic defeated Butts, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (retired). Sollecito used a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 to pick up Wentworth's point and end the match.

Wentworth (0-2) is at St. Joseph's (Conn.) on Saturday.
