Blue Jays Fly Past Women's Tennis

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team was defeated by St. Joseph's (Conn.) in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Jays picked up three wins in doubles play as freshman Carolyn Callahan (Southington, Conn.) teamed with sophomore Emily McAllister (Bristol, Conn.) to pick up an 8-0 win over sophomore CiCi Deakin (Standish, Maine) and freshman Kirsten Gramajo (Boston, Mass.) at No. 1. The No. 2 doubles tandem of senior Ashley Savino (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and junior Dominique Carnot (Meriden, Conn.) won by an identical score over Leopard sophomore Hannah Erickson (Columbia, Conn.) and junior Olivia DeLuca (Dracut, Mass.). No. 1 doubles saw seniors Lucy Roberge (Willington, Conn.) and Lean Nguyen (West Hartford, Conn.) emerge victorious, 8-2, over sophomores Ali Sollecito (Taunton, Mass.) and Beverly LaChapelle (Caracas, Venezuela).

Callahan (No. 6), Carnot (No. 4), and McAllister (No. 5) each picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins over Gramajo, Deakin, and Erickson, respectively, while Savino defeated LaChapelle, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3. Sollecito picked up Wentworth's lone point of the match as she defeated Roberge at No. 1, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2). Nguyen completed the match with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win over DeLuca at No. 2.

Wentworth (0-3) hosts Endicott in its Commonwealth Coast Conference opener on Wednesday at Curry College.
