Women's Tennis Defeated by Rhode Island College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Ali Sollecito (Taunton, Mass.) upped her record to 4-2 on the season with a straight set win at No. 1 singles as she provided the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team with its lone point in an 8-1 loss to Rhode Island College.

Rhode Island College picked up a win at No. 3 doubles as freshman Kaitlyn Koller (North Smithfield, R.I.) and junior Julie Marciniak (South Kingstown, R.I.) posted an 8-0 win over Wentworth sophomore CiCi Deakin (Standish, Maine) and Kirsten Gramajo (Boston, Mass.) at the No. 3 doubles spot. The Anchorwomen upped the lead to 2-0 when sophomores Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, R.I.) and Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield, R.I.) posted an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles against the Leopards team of sophomore Beverly LaChapelle (Caracas, Venezuela) and sophomore Hannah Erickson (Columbia, Conn.). The doubles sweep was completed when senior Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, R.I.) and sophomore Laurel Ten Eyck (Warwick, R.I.) posted an 8-2 win at the No. 1 spot against the Leopards' team of Sollecito and senior Ellen Butts (Brookfield, Mass.).

In singles play, Raskob brought the lead to 4-0 when she defeated Deakin, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 before Ten Eyck clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Erickson at No. 5. At No. 6, freshman Clara Siegmund (Pomfret, Conn.) had a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles against Gramajo while sophomore Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, Mass.) notched a 6-0, 6-3 win over Butts at the No. 2.

Sollecito picked up her third straight set victory of the season as she defeated Zangari, 6-0, in the first set before winning, 6-2, in the second set.

Wentworth (0-6) hosts Nichols on Saturday.
