Women's Tennis Suffers Setback at Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. – The three-time defending Commonwealth Coast Conference Champion Nichols College women's tennis team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 9-0, Wednesday afternoon in CCC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Senior Lindsay Kaplan (Boca Raton, Fla.) and sophomore Kara Stankewitz (Cologne, Germany) teamed up at No. 3 doubles to give the hosts a 1-0 lead with an 8-0 win over juniors CiCi Deakin (Standish, Maine) and Hannah Erickson (Columbia, Conn.). Senior Megan Nathanson (Scarborough, Maine) and Rachel McDonald (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) picked up an 8-0 win at No. 2 over senior Sam McGibbon (Pembroke, Mass.) and junior Olivia DeLuca (Dunstable, Mass.). Nichols completed the doubles sweep with an 8-0 win at No. 1 when senior Anmarie Settiwongse (Bangkok, Thailand) and senior Isabelle Leonardi (North Hampton, N.H.) defeated junior Ali Sollecito (Taunton, Mass.) and freshman Morgan Collins (Warwick, R.I.).
  • Junior Juliana Herrera (Villavicencio, Columbia) defeated McGibbon, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 to open singles play before Nathanson clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Collins at No. 4.
  • Stankewicz defeated DeLuca, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 2, Settiwongse topped Sollecito, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1, sophomore Victoria Lussier (Attleboro, Mass.) was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Erickson at No. 5, and junior Amanda Costa (Palmer, Mass.) defeated Deakin, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 6.
