Women's Tennis Defeats Lesley to Conclude Fall Campaign

WATERTOWN, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's tennis team jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the conclusion of doubles play and never looked back as the Leopards closed out the fall portion of their schedule with a 7-2 win over Lesley Wednesday afternoon at the Mt. Auburn Club.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Junior Olivia DeLuca (Dunstable, Mass.) paired with senior Sam McGibbon (Pembroke, Mass.) to take an 8-1 decision over freshman Morgan Anderson (Bedford, Mass.) and freshman Summer Lampray (Webster, Mass.) at No. 2 doubles. Juniors Hannah Erickson (Columbia, Conn.) and CiCi Deakin (Standish, Maine) made it 2-0 with their 8-6 win at No. 3 over junior Mary Pulling (Whitman, Mass.) and sophomore Annie Dai (Milton, Mass.). Junior Ali Sollecito (Taunton, Mass.) teamed up with freshman Morgan Collins (Warwick, R.I.) to make it 3-0 as the duo edged senior Maddie Abbott (Portland, Maine) and freshman Grace Jovanovich (West Bloomfield, Mich.), 8-7 (9-7).
  • The Lynx picked up the first point of singles play as Pulling defeated Erickson, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 5. However, the Leopards claimed the next two points to win the match. At No. 4, Collins defeated Lampray, 6-1, 6-2, which set the stage for DeLuca to clinch the match with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 win over Anderson at No. 2.
  • Lesley made it 5-2 when freshman Joselyn Martinez (Somerville, Mass.) defeated Deakin at No. 6, 4-6, 6-2, 12-10, however, McGibbon's 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Jovanovich at No. 3 and Sollecito's 6-0, 6-4 triumph over Abbott at No. 1 rounded out the match.

  • Having already bested last season's win total, Wentworth (4-8) will resume play in Orlando, Fla., the week of March 9-13.
