Hawks Sweep Women's Volleyball

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Krystie Luczynski (Kesington, Conn.) had seven kills while freshman Andrea Gorman (Wilbraham, Mass.) and sophomore Holly Hancock (Tilton, N.H.) had six and five kills, respectively, as the Roger Williams women's volleyball team ran its win streak to 13 with a 3-0 win at Wentworth Institute of Technology.

The Hawks, ranked fifth in the New England Women's Volleyball Association Poll, snapped an early, 2-2 tie in the opening set by going on a 15-0 run, en route to a 25-5 win.

Wentworth rallied from an early deficit in the second set to take a 7-6 lead, but Roger Williams countered with a 10-2 run to take the lead for good at 16-9. The Leopards would trim the deficit to 17-12, but the visitors pulled away with a 25-16 win.

Roger Williams completed the sweep with a 25-11 win in the third set, after opening the set with an 8-2 run. Wentworth would pull within three at 9-6, but a 9-2 Hawk run put the set out of reach.

In addition to her five kills, Hancock added five blocks, while freshman Emily Werth (Cheshire, Conn.) had 11 digs. Sophomore Alexa Armenti (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and junior Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, Conn.) had 12 and 11 assists, respectively, for the Hawks.

Wentworth was paced by junior Julie Rahilly (Nashua, N.H.) who had seven kills and five digs, while senior Julie Bruton (Montgomery, Texas) had five kills, two aces, and 12 digs.

Roger Williams improves to 22-3 overall and 4-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play. The Hawks are at Endicott Saturday afternoon. Wentworth falls to 10-11 (2-3) and is at Newbury for the tri-match against the Nighthawks and Becker on Saturday.
