Women's Volleyball Splits at Scranton Invitational

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team opened its season with a pair of matches at the 2015 Scranton Invitational on Friday evening. The Leopards split the two matches, defeating Cedar Crest, 3-0, before closing out the night with a 3-0 defeat to Wesley.

Wentworth hit .378 in the win against the Falcons, while holding Cedar Crest to an attack percentage of -.085. In the opening set the Leopards took a 25-17 victory as senior Hannah Bailey (Plymouth, Mass.) had four kills and a pair of blocks and junior Jordan Young (Derry, N.H.) had four kills in a block.

The second set saw the Black & Gold make just one attack error on 25 swings, hitting a match-high .480 and forcing Cedar Crest to hit -.278 in a 25-10 win. Sophomore Sydney Meyers (Washington, D.C.) had four kills, while Young added three. Wentworth closed out the match with a 25-13 win in the third set as Bailey had three kills in the set.

Young hit .529 for the match as she recorded nine kills and didn't make an error on 17 swings. Bailey finished with eight kills and a pair of blocks, while Meyers had six kills, hit .417, and had nine digs. Junior Amanda Hunton (Monroe, N.Y.) had 24 assists, four aces, and five digs. Freshman Lillie Clark (Vista, Calif.) had 16 digs and served three aces while sophomore Katelyn Carlson (Stratford, Conn.) had three aces. As a team Wentworth served 13 aces.

Against Wesley, Wentworth was defeated 25-20, 25-22, and 25-22. Bailey had nine kills, Young had five kills and a pair of blocks, Carlson had five kills, two blocks, and seven digs, Hunton had 18 assists, and Clark had 13 digs.

Wentworth continues pool play on Saturday with an 11:30 a.m. match against Union and will play at either 1:30 or 3:30 depending on that result.
