Women's Volleyball Picks up Two Wins at Scranton Invitational

SCRANTON, Pa. – Freshmen Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) and Claire Quick (Mission Viejo, Calif.) each recorded a two-match total of 23 kills to help pace the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team to a pair of victories to open the season at the Scranton Invitational. The Leopards defeated Wheaton, 3-1, before finishing the day with a 3-1 win over Bard.

WENTWORTH 3, WHETAON 1
Neither team hit well in the opening set with Wentworth hitting .057 and Wheaton hitting .067 and it was the Lyons who would take the set by a 25-19 score. The leopards recovered to even the match at 1-all with a 26-24 win in the second set, a set which saw the Black & Gold hold Wheaton to a match-low .029 attack percentage.

Wentworth posted its two highest hitting percentages of the match in the third (.192) and fourth (.205) sets and closed out the match with wins of 25-18 and 25-15, respectively.

Quick had 13 kills and 18 digs while Rogoz also posted a double-double in her collegiate debut with 10 kills and 14 digs. Quick also had a pair of aces. Junior Katelyn Carlson (Stratford, Conn.) had six kills, 16 digs, and 12 assists while freshman Katie Clouse (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) had 18 helpers and 10 digs.

WENTWORTH 3, BARD 1
Rogoz had 13 kills and nine digs and Quick added 10 kills and 13 digs to help the Leopards post their second victory of the day. Wentworth took a 25-19 win in the opening set, thanks to four kills on five swings from freshman Samantha Lassiter (Rogers, Ark.)

Wentworth hit .382 in the second frame, en route to a 25-16 win as Carlson and Quick had three kills each and senior Stephanie Nihan (Dracut, Mass.) and sophomore Sarah Hyndman (Encinitas, Calif.) combined on a block in the set.

Bard cut into the Leopard lead in the third set by taking a 25-22 win. Lassiter had five kills on eight swings and sophomore Lillie Clark (Vista, Calif.) had six digs. Wentworth hit a match-high .469 in the fourth set and cruised to a 25-11 win, thanks to seven kills on eight swings from Rogoz and four kills from Quick.

Lassiter had 12 kills and didn't make an error on 23 swings for a .522 attack percentage. Carlson added eight kills, 17 assists, and eight digs, Clouse had four aces and 10 digs, Nihan added six kills, and Clark had 15 assists.

The Leopards wrap up tournament play tomorrow against Penn State-Behrend and Mount St. Mary.
