BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Claire Quick (Mission Viejo, Calif.) recorded nine kills and served three aces to help pace the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Daniel Webster in non-conference action at Tansey Gymnasium.

Winners of six straight the Leopards improve to 11-1 while the Eagles fall to 7-5.

Wentworth found itself down 5-3 in the opening set before rolling off four straight points, capped off by a service ace from junior Katelyn Carlson (Stratford, Conn.). Daniel Webster came back to tie the set at 9-all after a service error, however the Leopards took the lead for good on a block from junior Caroline Shea (Abington, Mass.) and senior Stephanie Nihan (Dracut, Mass.). That point began a 12-1 run with freshman Katie Clouse (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) serving for four points and classmate Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) serving for seven points. Wentworth took the opening set, 25-12. Rogoz and Quick had three kills each and Nihan added two kills and two blocks. Wentworth hit .391 in the set. Daniel Webster, which hit -.083, received a pair of kills each from senior Madeline Roulier (Pittsfield, Mass.) and junior Hannah Koehler (Bedford, N.H.).

The Leopards scored the first three points of the second set and led 4-1 before the Eagles scored the next three points to tie the set when junior Rebecca Hoffman (Andover, Mass.) served an ace. Daniel Webster tied the score at 6-all on a block from Koehler and junior Nicole Beard (Shelton, Conn.) however a 6-3 spurt gave Wentworth a 12-9 lead after an attack error. The Leopards extended their lead to as many as seven at 18-11 and took a 23-14 lead on a Quick kill. Daniel Webster used a 7-1 run and trimmed the lead to 24-21 on a junior Amanda Gendron (Mont Vernon, N.H.) ace, but a kill from Rogoz ended the set at 25-21. Rogoz, Nihan, and Quick each had three kills for Wentworth. Koehler had three kills and two blocks in the set for the Eagles.

Daniel Webster jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the third set thanks in part to three kills from Koehler. The Leopards clawed their way back and tied the score at 10-all on a kill from Quick. After a Hoffman kill and a Gendron ace made 12-10, Wentworth rolled off four straight points to make it 14-12 on a Carlson kill. The score would be tied three more times, including at 18-all after a Gendron kill. Scoring the next three points, the Black & Gold took a 21-18 lead on a freshman Lexie Cambray ace. A service error and an ace from senior Madeline Roulier (Pittsfield, Mass.) made it 21-20, however Wentworth ended the match with four straight points. Quick and Shea had three kills each in the set and freshman Samantha Lassiter (Rogers, Ark.) had two kills and two blocks. Koehler had five kills for Daniel Webster.

In addition to Quick's nine kills and three aces, Rogoz had eight kills and two blocks and Nihan and Shea each added six without making an attack error and had three and two blocks, respectively. Lassiter had four kills and four blocks, Carlson had three kills and 13 assists, Clouse had 15 assists, and sophomore Lillie Clark (Vista, Calif.) had 18 digs.

Koehler had 10 kills and three blocks for Daniel Webster while Roulier and Hoffman chipped in with five kills apiece. Gendron served two aces, Beard had 21 assists and two blocks, and junior Courtney Sheyenne Warrington (Oceanside, Calif.) had eight digs.

Wentworth opens Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Saturday at Gordon. That same day, Daniel Webster is at Bridgewater State for a tri-match with the Bears and Salem State.
