Women's Volleyball Runs to Ninth Straight Win

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team defeated Eastern Nazarene College in three sets, 3-0, Saturday morning. Winners of nine straight, the Leopards improve to 22-3 overall and 5-2 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play while the Lions fall to 5-16 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Wentworth jumped out to the early 1-0 match lead taking the first set, 25-19. Freshmen Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) and Claire Quick (Mission Viejo, Calif.) led the Leopards with five kills while classmate Samantha Lassiter (Rogers, Ark.) followed up with four kills and six assists.

In the second set, the Leopards did not let up and made quick work of the Lions with a 25-17 victory to take the two-set lead. Quick was nearly perfect from the floor registering six kills on nine attempts while tallying a set-high five digs while sophomore libero Lillie Clark (Vista, Calif.) chipped in with four digs. Lions senior middle hitter Joanna Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) led Eastern Nazarene with four kills on eight attempts and just one error.

Eastern Nazarene hung with Wentworth in the third set of the afternoon. Freshman Haillee Owen (South Portland, Maine) was two kills while classmates Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) and Joseph notched two kills each for the Lions. But it was not enough to power past the Leopards.

Quick, who finished the day with a match-high 15 kills for the third time this season, remained red-hot, notching four kills on five attempts in the third set. Lassiter followed up with three kills on six attempts while junior Caroline Shea (Abington, Mass.) and junior Sydney Meyers (Washington, D.C.) also added three kills.

In addition to Quick's 15 kills, Lassiter had 10 kills, and Shea added eight kills. Freshman Maddy Tomastik (Portland, Ore.) had 42 assists and three aces Clark had 15 digs while Quick added 11.

The Lions were led by junior setter Lauryl Berger (Laurel, Del.) who paced the offense with 15 assists and tallied two block assists. Joseph finished the day with seven kills while McCarthy followed up with five kills on the day.

Wentworth hosts Western New England on Tuesday night while Eastern Nazarene is in action that same night, traveling to Gordon.
