Women's Volleyball Soars Past Suffolk

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Claire Quick (Mission Viejo, Calif.) recorded 11 kills on 19 swings without making an error and classmate Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) had 11 kills, 12 digs, and eight aces as the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team defeated Suffolk, 3-0, in non-conference action in Tasey Gymnasium.

Winners of eight straight matches, the Leopards improve to 21-2 on the season while the Rams see their three-match win streak come to an end, falling to 11-8.

Wentworth took a 4-1 lead in the opening set thanks in part to a pair of kills from Quick and a block from sophomore Samantha Lassiter (Rogers, Ark.). A pair of errors brought Suffolk within a point at 4-3 before a 17-4 run gave the Leopards a 21-7 lead. The Black & Gold took the first set, 25-10. Quick hit .700 in the set, recording seven kills on 10 swings without a kill while Rogoz hit .444 (4-0-9). Wentworth hit .387 in the set and forced the Rams to hit -.114.

The second set saw Suffolk take a 4-1 lead at the beginning, thanks in part to an ace from junior Talia Lombardo (Windham, N.H.) and an ace from junior Emma Feeney (Monroe, Conn.). Trailing 6-3, Wentworth took advantage of a pair of Rogoz kills and a Rams' error to even the score at 6-all. A block from junior Bridget Allison (Westford, Mass.) gave the visitors a 7-6 lead, however the hosts went on an 11-0 run to take an 18-7 lead and took a 2-0 lead with a 25-12 win. Quick hit .500 (4-0-8) in the set while Rogoz served five aces. The Leopards forced the Rams to have a negative attack percentage in the second set, hitting -.100.

Two kills from Lassiter, an ace from sophomore Katie Clouse (Hudson Falls, N.Y.), and a kill from senior Katelyn Carlson (Stratford, Conn.) gave Wentworth a 4-0 lead. After a kill from Allison and an attack error made it 4-2, Wentworth took command with an 20-4 run and took a 24-6 lead. Three straight Suffolk kills and a Wentworth error made it 24-10, however a block from freshman Makenna Salsbury (Bel Air, Md.) closed out the match. Rogoz had five kills and three aces in the set while Lassiter added three kills.

Quick and Rogoz hit .579 and.391, respectively, while Lassiter added nine kills and a pair of blocks. Senior Jordan Young (Derry, N.H.) had four kills on eight swings without an error (.500), sophomore Lexie Cambray (Bedford, N.H.) had 19 digs, Clouse had 16 assists, and sophomore Maddy Tomastik (Portland, Ore.) had 13 assists.

Freshman Hannah Fabiano (Litchfield, N.H.) had four kills and seven digs for Suffolk, while freshman Dakhensey Marcellus (Brockton, Mass.) had nine digs, and Lombardo had eight assists.

Wentworth hosts Emerson on Saturday. That same day Suffolk hosts Norwich and Curry in a tri-match.
