BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) recorded her third straight double-double as she had 17 kills and 12 digs to help the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team to its 10th straight win, a 3-0 win over Curry in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Wednesday night.
With the win the Leopards improve to 23-2 overall, matching the program record for wins set a season ago, and 5-1 in CCC play while the Colonels fall to 11-11 (2-5).
After Curry scored the first two points of the opening set, the teams traded points and there were five ties. With the score tied at 7-all, a kill from sophomore Claire Quick (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and an attack error gave Wentworth a 9-7 lead. A kill from Rogoz capped off a 4-1 spurt which gave the Leopards a 13-9. Sophomore Katie Couse (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) served an ace to make the score 20-13, however, Curry scored the next four points with a pair of Wentworth errors, an ace from sophomore Shea Matthews (Concord, N.H.), and a block from senior Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) and sophomore Monica Wilkes (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) accounting for the points. The Leopards built their lead to 23-19 on a kill from Clouse and had set point at 24-20 thanks to a kill from sophomore Lexie Cambray (Bedford, N.H.). Out of the timeout a Rogoz kill started a run of six straight points to make it 20-12. A pair of attack errors ended the run, however, the Leopards scored the next three points and took a 2-0 lead with a 25-15 win. During the run Rice had a kill and a block and junior Grace Stafford (West Yarmouth, Mass.) had a pair of kills. The Colonels extended their lead to 11-6 after a service error before a kill from senior Caroline Shea (Abington, Mass.) and an attack error made it 11-8.
