Women's Volleyball Sweeps Eastern Nazarene for Record-Setting Win

QUINCY, Mass. – Sophomores Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) and Claire Quick (Mission Viejo, Calif.) each recorded double-doubles to help the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team notch its program-record 24th win of the season as the Leopards defeated Eastern Nazarene, 3-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference play Tuesday night.

The Leopards' 24th win against just three losses eclipses the previous mark of 23 which was set last season. The Lions fall to 10-17 overall and 1-7 in league play with the loss.

Wentworth fell behind early in the opening set as the hosts scored the first three points before taking a 7-5 lead. Four straight points, capped off by a kill from senior Jordan Young (Derry, N.H.) gave Wentworth a 9-7 lead and would begin a 9-1 run which saw the Leopards take a 14-8 lead after a senior Caroline Shea (Abington, Mass.) solo block. Wentworth extended its lead to 21-10 on an ace from freshman Kayla Chen (Irvine, Calif.), one of six straight points served by Chen, and took the opening set 25-14. Rogoz had four kills on eight swings without an error in the set while serving two aces.

Sophomore Katie Clouse (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) served the first nine points of the second set and the Leopards never looked back, taking a 2-0 lead with a 25-7 win. In the middle frame Wentworth hit .440 (12-1-25) and forced Eastern Nazarene to hit -.143. Quick had three kills on six swings without an error in the set while Rogoz added three more kills.

Wentworth jumped out to a 5-2 lead to open the third set, with all five points coming by way of Lion errors. Eastern Nazarene closed the gap to 6-4, however, the Leopards scored eight of the next 12 points and took a 14-8 lead on a kill from Quick. A kill from sophomore Samantha Lassiter (Rogers, Ark.) gave the Black & Gold an 18-12 lead and started a 7-1 run to end the match.

Rogoz finished with 11 kills, 15 digs, and three aces, while Quick had 10 kills and 16 digs. Lassiter had five kills without making an error on 11 swings (.455) and Shea had four kills and three blocks. Clouse and sophomore Maddy Tomastik (Portland, Ore.) each had 15 assists while Junior Lillie Clark (Vista, Calif.) served four aces.
