Women's Volleyball Outmatches Lasell 3-2

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team outlasted the Lasell College Lasers, 3-2, in non-conference action Tuesday evening inside the Lasell Athletic Center.

The Leopards took the first two sets, 25-8 and 25-14, before the Lasers staged a comeback and forced five sets with 20-25 and 23-25 wins in the back half of the match. In a tight fifth set, the Leopards hit .500 and downed Lasell 15-10, and improve to 5-1 overall, while the Lasers remain winless at 0-9.

Wentworth hit above .250 in three of the five sets, highlighted by .609% hitting in the opener, committing zero errors on 23 attempts. The Leopards held a 56-48 advantage in kills, and jumped up for six team blocks compared to Lasell's one team block. Lasell barely outmatched the Leopards on the reception with 65 digs, led by sophomore Allie Jo Amos (Prescott, Ariz) with a match-best 17.

Junior Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) led the Leopards with 13 kills on .370% hitting, contributing 14.5 points overall. Rogoz, the Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week, also recorded nine digs defensively. Two other Leopards reach double-digit kill totals, as freshman Mary Zlotosch (Durham, N.H.) followed with 11 kills, two aces and .320% swinging. Classmate Jade Iadarola (Miami, Fla.) narrowly missed out on a double-double, putting down a season-high 10 kills alongside seven digs.

Defensively, junior Lexie Cambray (Bedford, N.H.) registered 13 digs, while classmates Katie Clouse (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) and Maddy Tomastik (Portland, Ore.) split setter duties, dishing out 24 and 19 assists, respectively.

The Leopards head to Schenectady, N.Y. this weekend for the Union Crosstown Tournament and are set to face Plattsburgh, Union, Mt. St. Vincent, and Skidmore. Wentworth opens up the tournament on Friday evening with a 6:00 p.m. match with Plattsburgh.
