Schenectady, N.Y. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team won the final two matches of the Union Crosstown Tournament, defeating Mt. St. Vincent 3-0 and Skidmore 3-1 on Saturday afternoon inside Viniar Athletic Center.
Junior Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) was named to the All-Tournament Team, with a combined 58 kills, 59 digs, and 11 aces. Rogoz registered a double-double in all four matches played, totaling six on the year.
The Leopards return to home Boston at 8-2, after going 3-1 over the weekend.
Match One – Wentworth: 3, Mt. St. Vincent: 0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-19)
The Leopards forced the Dolphins into 23 errors as a team, committing just 11 on their own. Wentworth owned a 35-30 advantage in team kills against Mt. St. Vincent, paced by Rogoz with 12, to go alongside 19 digs for her third straight double-double. Six additional Leopards recorded at least two kills, including freshmen Jade Iadarola (Miami, Fla.) and Mary Zlotosch (Durham, N.H.), who each contributed with five. Junior Lexie Cambray (Bedford, N.H.) followed Rogoz's lead on the reception with 12 digs, while junior Katie Clouse (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) led on the assists with 14.
Match Two – Wentworth: 3 Skidmore: 1 (25-22, 25-21, 25-22, 25-17)
Wentworth led the match 2-0 before the Thoroughbreds took one back on .324% hitting to prevent the Leopards from winning in straight sets. Down 16-12, Skidmore's deciding factor was a commanding 8-0 run – including four aces from Lauren Wolters – to then take a three-point lead, 19-16. Wentworth chipped away at the deficit, and got within a single point on an ace from Iadarola, but the Thoroughbreds stayed out in front and forced the fourth set.
After four set ties, Wentworth used a quick 5-0 run with Cambray on the serve to gain an early 10-6 advantage. The Leopards never trailed thereafter, and gained a lead of as much as six points, 18-12, following a Skidmore attack error. A 5-2 run closed things out for the Leopards, as Wentworth used two kills from Rogoz and a kill apiece from freshman Devin Neal (Lebanon, Ohio) and sophomore Caroline Rupp (Sayville, N.Y.) to seal the four-set victory.
Wentworth saw two impressive double-double performances from both Rogoz and Iadarola. Rogoz kept on pace with her fourth straight double-double, with 17 kills and 10 digs, and gave the Leopards 20 points overall with three additional aces. Iadarola's 15 kills and 11 digs served as her second double-double in three games, with 17 points in the match. Junior Samantha Lassiter (Rogers, Ark.) pitched in with 9.5 points on nine kills (a season-high) and a block assist, while classmates Clouse and Maddy Tomastik (Portland, Ore.) had 25 and 19 assists, respectively.
Defensively, Cambray had a match-high 23 digs, followed by Rogoz and Iadarola.
Wentworth returns to Boston on Wednesday for its Commonwealth Coast Conference opener against Salve Regina University. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. inside Tansey Gymnasium.
