BOSTON, Mass. – Four members of the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's volleyball team have been named to the Commonwealth Coast All-Conference Team, and head coach Evin Giglio has been awarded CCC Coach of The Year as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Junior Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) earned a spot on the all-conference first team for the third straight season, while classmate Claire Quick (Mission Viejo, Calif.) also earned her third straight postseason honor. Quick was placed on the second team for the second year in a row, joined by classmates Samantha Lassiter (Rogers, Ark.) and Lexie Cambray (Bedford, N.H.), who both received their first career All-CCC awards.
Giglio earns his first coach of the year honor with the Leopard women's program, leading the Black & Gold to a 7-1 finish in the conference, their most successful record against league opponents in program history. Wentworth, which sits at 22-4 on the year, shared its first-ever CCC Regular Season title, and their overall record marks the third season of 20+ wins. Giglio earned his 100th career victory with the women's program in early September, becoming the second women's coach at Wentworth to reach the 100-wins plateau in any sport. In conjunction with his 156 wins with the men's program, Giglio has 274 total wins with Wentworth volleyball.
Coming off a scorching 25-5 season in 2017, the Leopards were picked to finish fourth according to this year's CCC Preseason Poll. As previously mentioned, Giglio coached the Leopards to their first-ever regular season title, finishing as the No. 2 seed for the postseason tournament. He posted back-to-back seasons above .500 in 2016 (.793) and 2017 (.833) and will be the first women's volleyball coach at Wentworth to finish above .500 for the straight years.
Rogoz, who was named as the 2016 CCC Rookie of the Year, a first for Wentworth women's volleyball, is averaging 3.84 kills per set with 307 total, which ranks second overall in both categories among conference leaders. She is also averaging 3.56 digs per set and has 15 double-doubles this season with 285 total digs. Rogoz was named as CCC Player of the Week twice this season and started her junior campaign on a high note as an all-tournament team selection in the Union Crosstown Tournament. She has compiled 358.5 points this season – a statistic that also ranks second overall in the league – and become the third Wentworth women's volleyball player to reach 1,000 points on October 5th. In 80 career matches, she is averaging 3.56 kills, 3.40 digs, and 4.2 points per set.
Quick, a three-time All-CCC selection, is averaging 2.68 kills per set which ranks seventh overall across the conference, and 3.70 digs per set which ranks fifth. She has registered seven double-doubles this season and 108 of her 233 digs this season came against league opponents, which ranks third in conference play. In a historic 3-1 win over Roger Williams on September 27th, Quick set the record for digs in a single match with 31. In 79 career matches played, Quick is averaging 2.72 kills, 3.56 digs, and 3.2 points per set.
Lassiter earns her first All-CCC honor hitting .328 on the year, which ranks fourth overall across the CCC. In conference play, Lassiter hit .317, which ranks fifth, and hit .500 or better in five matches. Lassister has 108 kills on the year, which ranks fourth among her Leopard teammates. She also led the Leopards off the block this season, with 46 overall, 22 of which came in conference games. She averages 0.67 blocks per set, ranking seventh overall. In 78 career matches played at Wentworth, Lassiter is averaging 1.73 kills, 0.74 blocks, and 2.3 points per set.
Cambray, Wentworth's defensive anchor this season, also earned her first all-conference nod averaging 4.65 digs per set, ranking third across conference leaders. In conference matches, Cambray averaged 5.19 digs per set for 140 digs total, finishing as the league's leader in those categories, and was also named CCC Libero of the Week on October 22nd. In terms of overall numbers, she has 349 digs accounting for her most successful season at Wentworth. In 75 career matches played, Cambray is averaging 4.65 digs per set with 741 total digs.
