Women's Volleyball Claims Top Spot in CCC Preseason Poll

(BOSTON, Mass.) - Fresh off its first Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship, the Wentworth women's volleyball team has been picked to repeat as champions, as voted upon by the league's nine head coaches.

Wentworth earned 76 points in the poll, including seven of the nine first-place votes. Endicott rolled in at the second spot with 70 points and the remaining two first-place votes, having handed Wentworth its only conference setback of the season in 2018.

Shattering all expectations at the number four slot in last year's preseason poll, the Leopards look to defend their title after claiming their first-ever regular season title, matching their winningest season in history at 25-5, and sweeping their way through the conference tournament, including a 3-0 win over Roger Williams for the title. With the first league tournament title, Wentworth also earned its first-ever berth in the NCAA Tournament.

After graduating just one lone senior, the Leopards are poised to defend their title with a core group of skilled student-athletes, including 2018 All-Conference selections Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.), Claire Quick (Mission Viejo, Calif.), Lexie Cambray (Bedford, N.H.), and Samantha Lassiter (Rogers, Ark.). Rogoz, who finished the 2018 season as the conference leader in kills (353) and kills per set (3.97), was also named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic-All District® Team in addition to being a CCC First Team honoree

The Leopards welcome a handful of new players to the roster, all of whom hail outside of the Massachusetts region, and begin the season in sunny California on August 30th for the 2019 Pacific Coast Classic. Wentworth will face Cal Lutheran, Occidental, Redlands, and Pomona-Pitzer before returning to Boston for a COF match at Simmons on September 5.
