Undefeated Gulls Fly Past Women's Volleyball

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott College women's volleyball remained undefeated in Commonwealth Coast Conference play with a 3-0 win (25-19, 25-21, 25-15) over Wentworth on Thursday evening.

The Gulls improve to 17-7 this season and 5-0 in conference, while the Leopards drop their first league game since mid-September and dip to 18-6 overall and 4-2 against league opponents.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Both teams battled in the opening two sets, as Endicott ultimately ran away with the frames on late offensive runs. Back-to-back points on a kill and an ace from senior Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) and freshman Jordan Chapman (Clearwater, Fla.) tied set one 12-12 before Meghan Frederick sparked a 7-5 run for Endicott, forcing Wentworth to burn both of its timeouts in the surge. An ace from Amanda Gilbert set the Gulls ahead 22-15, and despite three straight points from Wentworth on two kills from sophomore Jade Iadarola (Miami, Fla.) and an ace from classmate Mary Zlotosch (Durham, N.H.), Endicott won the final battle scoring three of the last four points.
• Wentworth swung with its best percentage in the middle frame at .244, and crawled back from a four-point deficit as a Chapman ace squared things up at 11-11. The Gulls built the lead back up to two, forcing a WIT timeout, but the Leopards rallied as Zlotosch served up an ace for the 16-16 score. After Zlotosch's point, the Gulls hit their turning point with a combined four kills and a service ace for a 5-0 run and the 21-16 lead. Wentworth answered with a hot-streak of its own, and used swings from Rogoz and Samantha Lassiter (Rogers, Ark.) to pull back within three, 23-20. Zoey Gifford then smashed a kill to give Endicott match-point opportunity, before a WIT service error sealed the set for the Gulls.
• Endicott hit a match-high .417 in its best statistical set of the match while Wentworth struggled from the floor making nine errors on 39 swings with nine kills. Gilbert broke a 5-5 tie for Endicott early in the set, as the home team never looked back to secure the match sweep to stay on top of the conference standings.

NOTES

• Rogoz booked the 14^th double-double of her senior campaign, while Iadarola registered double-double numbers for the second time in three matches.
• The Leopards drop their first three-set match since their season-opener on August 31^st.
• Endicott stays undefeated against Wentworth in the all-time series.
