Hockey Completes Series Sweep of Western New England

EVERETT, Mass. – Junior Georgy Gorodetsky (Yekaterinburg, Russia) scored a pair of goals and classmate Nate Chase (Plainfield, Ill.) had a pair of assists as the Wentworth Institute of Technology hockey team defeated Western New England, 4-2, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Leopards win their second straight and run their unbeaten streak to five (3-0-2), improving to 3-3-3 overall and 3-2-1 in league play while the Golden Bears fall to 0-7-0 (0-6-0).

Gorodetsky, who has six points in his last three contests, put the hosts on the board at 5:34 of the first period when he scored from junior Connor Beaudet (Buffalo, N.Y.) and freshman Tyler Lapshanski (Belvidere, N.J.). The Black & Gold increased their lead to 2-0 with 2:22 left in the frame as junior Adam Tracey (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) scored from senior Ethan Weiss (Troy, Mich.) and junior Connor Busch (Lake in the Hills, Ill.).

The second period looked to remain with the Leopards ahead, 2-0, however, Western New England tallied with 15 seconds in the period to make it a 2-1 game. Senior Connor Graham (Norfolk, Mass.) scored from classmates CJ Totillo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Eddie Rogers (St. Louis, Mo.). The Golden Bears evened the score at the 4:02 mark of the third period on a goal from junior Andrew Green (Plainview, N.Y.), which was assisted by Graham and Rogers.

Freshman Jake McKenelley (Middleton, Mass.) found the right time to score his first collegiate goal as his marker with 3:33 remaining in regulation gave the hosts a 3-2 lead. Senior Jonny Spada (Glen Rock, N.J.) and Chase. With 1:58 remaining, Western New England was called for a penalty, giving Wentworth their fifth power-play opportunity of the day. The leopards made the most of the man advantage as Gorodetsky scored an insurance goal at 19:18, which was assisted by Chase and sophomore Jake Hallisey (Quincy, Mass.).

Freshman Thomas Draper (Binghamton, N.Y.) made 23 saves in the win while junior Baylee Johns (Woodstock, Conn.) turned aside 31 shots in the loss. Wentworth had a 35-25 shot advantage, which included a 12-5 margin in the third period.

The Leopards are at the Bowdoin/Colby Thanksgiving Tournament, playing the Polar Bears on Saturday and the Mules on Sunday.
