WATERVILLE, Maine – Senior Tim Shea, Jr. (Ferrisburgh, Vt.) netted a goal for the Wentworth Institute of Technology ice hockey team as the Leopards skated to a 1-all tie against host Colby on the second day of the Bowdoin/Colby Faceoff Classic.
The Leopards sit at 3-4-4, which equals the most ties in a single season in program history, tying the 2010-11 squad which finished 14-9-4, while the Mules are 1-2-1.
Shea's first goal of the season came when junior Georgy Gorodetsky (Yekaterinburg, Russia) sent a pass to junior Adam Tracey (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.). Tracey brought the puck into the zone and fed Shea, who scored inside the left post at 16:15 of the opening period.
Wentworth held the lead until the 1:48 mark of the second period when senior Thomas Stahlhuth (Webster Groves, Mo.) evened the score. Freshman Michael Thomas (Park Ridge, Ill.) gained the puck off a turnover and fed sophomore Justin Grillo (Rockville Centre, N.Y.). Grillo brought the puck up the ice and dropped a pass back to Stahlhuth who beat freshman Thomas Draper (Binghamton, N.Y.).
While both teams had chances, the game remained scoreless through the remainder of regulation. Grillo nearly won the game for the Mules when his shot rattled off of the post a minute into the extra session.
Draper finished with 24 saves while junior Andrew Tucci (Toronto, Ont.) made 29 saves. Wentworth had a 30-25 shot advantage.
Wentworth resumes Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Friday night at Endicott.
