HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Midway through the opening period, Wentworth scored a pair of goals, with the first coming at 11:48 when senor Connor Busch (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) was set up by classmate Adam Tracey (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) and Gorodetsky for a power-play goal. Just 15 seconds later, sophomore Joey O'Leary (Boston, Mass.) set up classmate Jake McKenelley (Middleton, Mass.), who had an initial shot saved by Castleton freshman goalie Brandon Collett (Brockton, Mass.). Junior Brendan Lloyd (Merrick, N.Y.) was there to put home the rebound.
  • With 34 seconds left in the opening frame, the Spartans cut their deficit in half, thanks to a goal from junior Nick Gravina (Bloomingdale, Ill.), which was set up by freshman Calvin Moise (Saint-Eustace, Que.
  • Castleton tied the game with 25 seconds left in the second stanza on a 4x4 goal from Moise, set up by junior Glenn Wiswell (Berwick, Maine) and senior Troy Taylor (Mississauga, Ont.).
  • Despite both teams having chances in the third period, the game remained deadlocked at 2-all until a tic-tac-toe play resulted in Gorodetsky giving the Black & Gold the lead. Tracey carried the puck into the zone where he fed classmate Nate Chase (Plainfield, Ill.). Chase slid a pass to Gorodetsky, who put home a shot from the right side.
  • With 1:40 remaining, Collett was pulled for an extra attacker. Junior Dante Flori (Waltham, Mass.) caused a turnover just inside the blue line where he flipped a short pass to Gorodetsky. Gorodetsky chipped the puck up ice to Chase, who iced the game with an empty-net goal.
  • Sophomore Ryan Bonnvie (Falmouth, Maine) made 21 saves for Wentworth while Collett made 36 for Castleton. The Leopards had a 40-21 shot advantage.
