Hockey Falls in Regular-Season Finale

EVERETT, Mass. – Five different players scored goals while juniors Dylan Carabia (Sebastian, Fla.) and Danny Eruzione (Winthrop, Mass.) each had two assists as the Salve Regina University men's ice hockey team scored four unanswered goals to defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 5-2, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Just 54 seconds into the contest, senior Georgy Gorodetsky (Yekaterinburg, Russia) scored on an off-balance shot which was assisted by seniors Connor Busch (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) and Liam McKay (Calgary, Alta.). Midway through the period, Salve Regina, which had a 17-9 shot advantage in the frame, evened the score on a goal from freshman Mitch Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.).
  • As he did in the first period, Gorodetsky gave the Leopards the lead early in the second period as his power-play goal at 1:04, assisted by freshman Sam Milnes (Middletown, R.I) and senior Adam Tracey (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.), put the hosts ahead, 2-1. The Seahawks scored twice in a span of 2:36 to take a 3-2 lead. Freshman Vincent Marino (Waterford, Mich.) scored on the power play at 10:53 to even the score at 2-all, while classmate Spencer Stanley (South Lyon, Mich.) gave Salve Regina a 3-2 lead with his goal at 13:29.
  • Salve Regina outshot Wentworth 12-3 in the final period and increased its lead to 4-2 with a goal from senior Eric Lipa (Lockport, N.Y.) at 16:51. With 1:36 left in the game and freshman Connor Carbo (Berlin, Vt.) pulled for an extra attacker, junior Erik Udahl (East Walpole, Mass.) put home an empty-netter to complete the scoring.
  • Sophomore Tony Rehm (Madison, Wis.) made 20 saves while Carbo stopped 43 shots. The Seahawks held a 48-22 shot advantage.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Prior to the game the seven members of the senior class – Drew DiGeronino (Fitchburg, Mass.), Busch, Tracey, Connor Beaudet (Buffalo, N.Y.), Nate Chase (Plainfield, Ill.), Gorodetsky, and McKay were honored as a part of senior day festivities.

SERIES NOTES:

  • Today marked the 39th all-time meeting between the two programs with Wentworth holding a 27-9-3 advantage. Salve Regina has won the last three series meetings, which have all come this season.

NEXT UP:

  • Wentworth will be the number six seed in the upcoming CCC Tournament. The Leopards will travel to a third seeded opponent for an opening round contest on Wednesday evening. Pairings will be announced Sunday night.
