Wentworth Falls to Roger Williams, 16-6

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior attackman Drew Smith (Blue Point, N.Y.) scored seven goals to help pace the Roger Williams men's lacrosse team to its third straight win, a 16-6 triumph over Wentworth in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Sweeney Field.

The visiting Hawks struck first in the contest on a sophomore attackman Drew Beck (South Salem, N.Y.) marker 1:34 into the contest.  Less than five minutes later the Leopards would even the score when senior attackman Chris Guilherme (Derry, N.H.) found freshman attackman Jeff Guilherme (Derry, N.H.) to even the score at 1-all.

Roger Williams scored the next six goals, with three coming from Smith, to take a 7-1 lead with 6:03 left in the first half.  Wentworth sophomore attackman Mark Pappas (Worcester, Mass.) ended the run with a goal with 3:13 left in the half.  However, the Hawks would take an 8-2 lead into the break when sophomore attackman Ian Powers (Shrewsbury, Mass.) scored with 2:19 left in the half.

Smith scored two of the Hawks' next three goals, sandwiched around a Pappas marker.  Chris Guilherme made it a 12-4 game with 1:55 left in the third quarter, but Smith answered 17 seconds later, beginning a 4-0 run for the Hawks that put the game out of reach.

Junior attackman Justin Leddy (Sea Girt, N.J) had two goals and two assists, while Beck had a goal and three assists.  Powers finished the game with a pair of goals.  Pappas led the Leopards with two goals while Jeff Guilherme had a goal and two assists on the night.

Senior Tyler Roebuck (Pine Bush, N.Y.) made six saves in 49:38 of work before senior Tom Hardon (Devon, Pa.) made four saves over the final 10:22.  Wentworth sophomore Matt O'Connor (Duxbury, Mass.) made 13 saves through three quarters, with freshman Jeff Bathalon (Maynard, Mass.) making four saves in the fourth quarter.  Roger Williams held a 46-26 shot advantage and a 53-43 advantage on ground balls.

Senior midfielder Austin Fehringer (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) had a solid day at the faceoff X, winning 15 of 21 draws.  As a team Roger Williams won 18 of 25 faceoffs.

With the win the Hawks improve to 3-3 overall and remain undefeated (3-0) in TCCC play.  Roger Williams hosts Anna Maria on Tuesday at 4:00.  Wentworth falls to 1-3 (0-3) and is at Endicott Thursday at 7:00.
