Men's Lacrosse Wins Second Straight

BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 12-0 lead after one quarter of play and never looked back, cruising to a 25-1 win over Wheelock in a non-conference contest between Colleges of the Fenway member institutions.  The 25 goals scored by the Leopards tied the second highest single-game output, while the 42 total points were second only to a 47-point output against Franklin Pierce 12 years ago.

Senior Chris Guilherme (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy) scored seven times for the Leopards, while junior Justin Connors (Richboro, PA/Council Rock North) and freshman Jeff Guilherme (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy) both matched a school record by tallying seven assists apiece. Jeff Guilherme added a goal for a game-high eight points, while sophomores Mark Pappas (Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian) and Sean Paradis (Pelham, NH/Pelham) each turned in a hat trick. Junior Mike Swenson (East Lyme, CT/East Lyme) went 10-for-11 on draws, and freshman Jeff Bathalon (Maynard, MA/Assabet Valley Regional) earned his first collegiate win after playing the opening 30 minutes in goal.

Junior Ben Lewis (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) tallied for Wheelock, with classmate Kevin Kareckas (South Berwick, ME/Marshwood) assisting. Sophomore Michael Manning (Brookfield, NH/Kingswood Regional) made 20 stops, turning aside at least 20 shots for the third time this season, while classmate Matt Burns (Cheyenne, WY/Cheyenne East) won seven face-offs.

Wentworth scored seven times in the opening 6:59 of the contest, with Connors assisting five of the first six goals. The Wildcats scored their marker on the man advantage, as Lewis cut into his team's deficit with 2:36 remaining in the second quarter. The Leopards scored a pair of man-up goals of their own during the second half.

Winners of two straight, Wentworth (3-9) closes out the 2011 campaign at home against MIT on Wednesday night.  Wheelock (0-9) completes its inaugural campaign on Saturday at Rivier College at 1 p.m.
