Doner Reaches Career Century Mark in Men's Lacrosse's Loss to Wheaton

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Pete Chisholm (Westford, Mass.) and senior John Talanian (Arlington, Mass.) each scored three goals to help pace the Wheaton College men's lacrosse team to a 13-9 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Lyons improve to 4-1 on the season while the Leopards slip to 2-5.

For Wentworth, junior Kyle Doner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored five goals and added an assist for a six-point afternoon and has goal late in the fourth quarter gave him 100 career points, making him the 14th player in program history to reach the century mark.

Chisholm got things started for Wheaton, scoring 4:55 into the first quarter before Doner evened the score 2:53 later. The Lyons scored the next four times with markers from sophomore Mike Abramo (Old Bethpage, N.Y.), Talanian, senior Matt Morgan (York, Maine), and Chisholm and took a 5-1 lead after the first quarter.

Senior Alex Stomberg (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Chisholm tallied second quarter goals for the Lyons to extend their lead to 7-1 with 11:34 left in the half. Doner cut the lead to 7-2 with his second of the game which came with 4:21 remaining.

A pair of senior CJ Leighton (Falmouth, Maine) goals along with a marker from Morgan provided the visitors with three goals in the third quarter, while sophomores Andrew DiPalma (West Orange, N.J.) and Ben Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) tallied for the Black & Gold, which trailed 10-4 after three quarters.

Talanian had a pair of goals to complete his hat trick and were sandwiched around a Doner marker, making it 12-5. Coakley and sophomore Gil Bach (Sandwich, Mass.) traded tallies making it 13-6 with 6:47 left. Freshman Anthony Raei (Boston, Mass.) notched his first collegiate goal 17 seconds later before Doner scored the final two goals of the game.

In addition to Chisholm and Talanian, Morgan had two goals and two assists, Leighton had two goals and one assist, and Abramso and Stomberg each had a goal and two assists. Sophomore Troy Sliney (Bradford, Mass.) was 16-of-25 at the X and he , along with sophomore Trey Kaufmann (Weybridge, Vt.) scooped up six ground balls apiece.

Doner paced Wentworth's offense with six points while Coakley finished with two goals and two assists and senior Zach Tomaszek (Milford, Conn.) had two assists. Reaei scooped up a team-high five ground balls.

Freshman Chandler Miller (West Linn, Ore.) made 15 saves for Wheaton while sophomore Randy Ryan (Clinton, N.J.) made 11 saves for the Leopards. Wentworth had advantages in shots (45-39) and ground balls (39-33).

Wentworth is at Lasell on Tuesday.
