Men's Tennis Runs Win Streak to Two

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Winning the first five matches of the day, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team picked up its second straight win of the season as the Leopards downed Albertus Magnus, 8-1, in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

Just like in Thursday's 8-1 win over Suffolk, the Leopards swept doubles play to jump out to the lead. At No. 3, sophomore Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas) and junior Mun Chet (Braintree, Mass.) teamed up to win, 8-1, over junior Nick Tagliaferri (Hamden, Conn.) and junior Zach Monti (Beacon Falls, Conn.). No. 1 doubles saw sophomore Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) and junior Alex Mularski (Auburn, Mass.) defeat freshman Zak Levine (Hamden, Conn.) and freshman Alex Hale (Wolcott, Conn.), 8-4. The doubles sweep was completed after sophomore Harrison Maki (Rutland, Mass.) and sophomore Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.) picked up an 8-3 win over sophomore William Kouakou (Bridgeport, Conn.) and freshman Alessandro Proscino (Hamden, Conn.) at No. 2.

Freshman Samuel Ferro (Whitman, Mass.) put the Black & Gold ahead 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over sophomore Eric Brown (New Haven, Conn.) at No. 6 singles. The clinching point came when Maki defeated Proscino, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2, at No. 4. The Falcons got their lone point of the match at No. 5 when Tagliaferri defeated sophomore Dimitry Gosselin (West Boothbay Harbor, Maine), 6-2, 6-3. Hall bested Levine at No. 1, 7-6 (7-3), Mularski was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Kouakou at No. 3, and North battled for a tough, three-set win at No. 2, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 7-6 (7-5).

Wentworth (3-6) is at Bridgewater State on Tuesday.
