Men's Tennis Opens Conference Play

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team suffered its first loss in its last five matches as the Leopards opened Commonwealth Coast Conference play with an 8-1 setback to Endicott.

With the win the Gulls improve to 5-4 overall (1-0 CCC) while the Leopards fall to 5-7 (0-1).

Endicott took a 3-0 lead after doubles play with senior Christos Papadopoulos (Weymouth, Mass.) and junior Charles Book (Devon, Pa.) defeating sophomores Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.) and Harrison Maki (Rutland, Mass.) at No. 2, 8-2. At No. 3, sophomore Daniel Rinkert (Ben Lomond, Calif.) and freshman Colin DiNardo (Westport, Mass.) defeated junior Mun Chet (Braintree, Mass.) and sophomore Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas), 8-1, while, at No. 1, senior Kevin McCleary (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman Cooper Waters (Madeira Beach, Fla.) picked up an 8-3 win over junior Alex Mularski (Auburn, Mass.) and sophomore Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.).

Book gave the Gulls a 4-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-0, win over Mularski at No. 3 singles before Papadopoulos clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Maki at No. 5. At No. 3, McCleary defeated Maus, 6-2, 6-1, while DiNardo was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Chet at No. 6. Rinkert picked up Endicott's eighth point of the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Hall at No. 1, however, North helped the Black & Gold avoid the sweep as he bested Walters, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, at No. 2.

Wentworth hosts Salve Regina at Regis College on Tuesday night.
