Cross Country Takes Third at CCC Championship; Three Runners Place in Top 15

WENHAM, Mass. – On a wet and stormy Saturday afternoon, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's cross country team battled to a third-place finish at the 2018 Commonwealth Coast Conference Championships hosted by Gordon College.

UNE captured its first-ever Championship title with 31 points, while Roger Williams came in as the runner-up with 72 points. Wentworth garnered 81 points in the event, and saw three players earn All-Conference honors with Top 15 finishes.

"It was a wet and wild race and we were prepared for anything," said head coach Dan Roark. "Not our best day but we did enough to grab third place and fend off Nichols. Happy to have three guys place on the All-Conference team and great performance from senior Josh Gangemi."

Gangemi (Norton, Mass.) earned his second straight All-CCC nod, and placed fourth overall in the 8K event. Gangemi, a repeat All-CCC runner from last season, finished at 27:16.8 to lead the Leopard pack. "He did a great job for his last conference meet," commented Roark. "He really stepped up and battled."

Junior Tom Caruso (Mahopac, N.Y.) captured his first All-Conference award with an 11th place finish at 27:50.3, while sophomore Tyler Cosma (Center Moriches, N.Y.) also earned her first-ever postseason honor at 28:17.0 and a 15th place finish.

Sophomores Will Allen (West Hartford, Conn.) and Wes Brimeyer (Dubuque, Iowa) came in at 28:41.8 and 29.10.0 respectively, while Alexander Foote (North Easton, Mass.) and sophomore Rob Moran (Billerica, Mass.) rounded out team scoring at 32:55.5. and 33:22.6. Senior Nathan Oullette (Wells, Maine) wrapped up the running for Wentworth at 34:08.6.

The Leopards will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships at the NCAA New England Regional meet in Brunswick, Maine on November 10th.
