Men's Cross Country Competes at Bowdoin Invite

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Wentworth men's cross country team competed against solid competition at the 2019 Bowdoin College Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

A pair of NESCAC teams finished in the top two overall, as Colby took first place at the meet with 21 points. Host Bowdoin finished second, collecting 60 points, while Coast Guard Academy rounded out the top three with 65 points.

Freshman Patrick Heavey (Mansfield, Mass.) crossed the finish line first for the Leopards and finished at 28:22.70 for 25th place overall. Heavey improved on his final time from his first collegiate 8k (30:15) at the beginning of the month at the Endicott Invite.

Wes Brimeyer (Dubuque, Iowa) and Will Allen (West Hartford, Conn.) finished next for the Black & Gold with a 37th and 38th place finish. Brimeyer clocked in at 28:56.00, while Allen followed at 29:00.10. Both times were also improvements from the Endicott Invite.

Freshman Ryan Smith (Billerica, Mass.) rounded out Wentworth's top-50 runners, and completed his second collegiate 8k at 29:16.10.

The Leopards return to the course in a couple of weeks for the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University. The race is set for Saturday, October 5th.
