Willcutt Earns Academic All-District Honors

BOSTON, Mass. – Wentworth Institute of Technology softball senior Rachel Willcutt (Tilton, N.H.) has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team as announced on Thursday afternoon.

The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Softball Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in June.

Willcutt, who was earlier named as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Senior Scholar-Athlete, is the first student-athlete to represent Wentworth on the Academic All-District Team since 2016. Willcutt joins a group of elite scholar-athletes from Wentworth and becomes the 26th Leopard in athletics history to receive this honor.

An interdisciplinary engineering major with a minor in industrial design and manufacturing, Willcutt was recently inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national college athlete honor society, with a 3.88 GPA. She is an involved member of the Society of Women Engineers and has been a Wentworth Opening Week (WOW) Orientation Leader for the past two years.

A three-year impact player for the Leopards, Willcutt spent two years behind the plate as a catcher and took on a new position at shortstop this year. Willcutt has made 35 appearances this year for the Leopards, and has recorded 33 hits, 11 runs, and 15 RBI. Overall, in 93 games played as a Leopard, Willcutt has produced a .322 batting average over the course of three years.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed here for baseball and softball, and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools and other affiliations.
