INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams traded goals over the first six minutes, as Julie Dam (Milford, Mass.) put Wentworth on the board with a free position shot. Allie Lauersen (York, Maine) grabbed the ensuing draw, setting up Sarah Galan (Colchester, Vt.) for the 2-1 Wentworth lead. Emmanuel's Emily Saef answered with a goal for the Saints, tying the score for one last time at 2-2 with 20:28 left in the half.
  • Within a two-minute window, Emmanuel put in back-to-back goals, both by sophomore Chandra Franca. Both teams played lockdown defense for the next ten minutes, including caused turnovers form Lauersen, Shannon Sturtz (Littleton, Mass.), and Alexis Stickelman (East Northport, N.Y.), while Lily Kuhns (Gloucester, Mass.) made two saves in net. Galan finished a pass from Marissa Nelson (Cranston, R.I.) to pull within one, but Emmanuel closed the half on a 5-2 run to lead 9-5 at the break.
  • Despite WIT owning the circle in the second half holding a 10-3 advantage in draw controls, the Saints opened the half with a 3-1 run for the 12-6 lead. Galan scored the first second-half goal for WIT at the 21:09 mark, driving after the quick pass from Bella MacMahon (North Yarmouth, Maine), before Emmanuel scored four straight goals, including back-to-back tallies from Jessica Borduas.
  • The Leopards ignited a spirited comeback in the latter portion of the second half, scoring two goals in a 14-second plan from Jorgie Pashalian (Cranston, R.I.) and Galan, but the Emmanuel lead proved too large for the 17-9 final.
