Wellesley Outmaches Women's Lacrosse

Wellesley, Mass. – Led by a balanced offense, Wellesley College defeated the Wentworth women's lacrosse team, 12-5, on Wednesday afternoon at Butler Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sophomore Sarah Galan (Colchester, Vt.) won the opening draw, as both teams traded possession before Wellesley broke open the scoring 2:51 into the contest on a free position shot. Galan again won the ensuing draw and ripped a shot on net on a free position attempt, only to be stopped by Wellesley keeper Lorna Li. Wellesley scored its second goal of the game – again following a WIT foul inside the arc – as Liz Sugg put away the free position attempt to put the Blue up 2-0 at 23:12.
  • Jorgie Pashalian (Cranston, R.I.) broke the drought for Wentworth in the 10th minute of play, scoring an unassisted goal for the 2-1 score, but Wellesley closed the half on a 3-1 run to lead 5-2 at the break.
  • Wellesley took total control of the circle in the second half, outmatching the Leopards 9-2 in draw controls. The Blue outscored Wentworth 7-3 in the final 30 minutes with two apiece coming from Izzy Burdick and Kat Gallison.
  • Wentworth went 5-for-14 on clear attempts in the second half, while Wellesley went 2-for-3.

     

NOTES

  • Wellesley earned the advantage in the circle, on ground balls, and in clear attempts for the game, while Lorma Li made nine saves from 14 shots.
  • Foul trouble plagued the Leopards, as Wellesley scored two of their five first-half goals on the man-up advantage.

     

THE SERIES

  • Wellesley is 2-0 in the all-time series after meeting for the first time last season.

  • Wentworth will play its next game in sunny Florida on Wednesday, March 11th with a 10:00 a.m. game against COF foe Simmons College.
