Women's Soccer Battles to 0-0 Tie With Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – In a battle between the two teams picked to finish first in second in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Preseason Women's Soccer Coaches' Poll, Wentworth Institute of Technology and Roger Williams battled through 120 minutes of action, however the game would end in a scoreless draw.

The Leopards stand at 4-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in CCC play while the Hawks are 0-5-2 (0-0-2).

Offensive chances were at a minimum in the opening half, thanks to a pair of stellar defensive efforts. Wentworth had an opportunity in the 41st minute to take the lead, however junior Heather MacDougall's (Exeter, N.H.) bid after a classmate Emily Richard (Fremont, N.H.) corner kick went wide. After 45 minutes of play the Leopards had a 4-1 shot advantage.

In the 51st minute Wentworth had a chance to break the ice on a shot attempt by senior Mykaela Scarpace (Marlborough, Conn.), however her header was cleared out by a Roger Williams backline defender. The Hawks countered with three shots on net in a three-minute span, however sophomore Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) saved them all.

Senior Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.) put a shot on net in the 83rd minute, however junior Natalie O'Donovan (Quincy, Mass.) came up with the save.

The first overtime saw Wentworth have a chance near the end which resulted in a corner kick, however the Leopards were unable to get a shot off before time expired.

Roger Williams had a pair of chances early in the second extra session, however one was blocked and the other was sent wide. In the 104th minute, senior Mary Annon's (Concord, N.H.) shot attempt was stopped by O'Donovan and, with 39 ticks left, Robinson saved a shot attempt by junior Samantha Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.).

Robinson made seven saves in recording her fourth shutout of the season. O'Donovan made three stops for the Hawks. The Leopards had a 12-10 shot advantage and a 4-3 edge on corner kicks.

Wentworth is at No. 10 Amherst on Sunday afternoon.
