BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Mary Annon (Concord, N.H.) had a goal and an assist and sophomore Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) made four saves as the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team picked up its third straight win with a 2-0 victory over Endicott in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Leopards improve to 12-3-2 overall and 7-0-1 in CCC play while the Gulls fall to 11-3-2 (6-2-0).
Endicott put a pair of shots on net in the first eight minutes with coming up with a pair of saves. In the 11th minute junior Rachel Hanna (Chelmsford, Mass.) had a header in front, however the shot went over the crossbar.
Wentworth countered with a shot on net from senior Mykaela Scarpace (Marlborough, Conn.) in the 16th minute and one by sophomore Madyson Reno (Simi Valley, Calif.), both of which were saved by junior Caroline Armbruster (Stowe, Vt.) in the 20th minute. On Reno's shot, Armbruster got her fingertips on it to knock it wide and give the Leopards a corner kick. Annon served the kick from the right, which she bent inside the left post at 19:38.
Annon helped give Wentworth a 2-0 lead when she went a pass in from the left side to classmate Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.) who tapped the ball in from in front of the net. The Leopards had a 9-7 shot advantage at the break.
Both teams had chances in the second half and freshman Sidney Brogan nearly put the hosts ahead in the 68th minute when she put a shot on net the Armbruster tipped away and was cleared out by the Endicott defense. Robinson made a save from a shot at point-blank range in the 89th minute to preserve the shutout, her sixth of the season which matches the number she had as a rookie.
Wentworth had a 13-12 advantage in shots while Endicott had a 4-2 edge on corner kicks.
The Leopards wrap up the regular season on Tuesday at the University of New England. A Wentworth win will give the Black & Gold the conference's regular-season title.
