Spotlighting our Leopard Champions of Change

Spotlighting our Leopard Champions of Change

As part of the NCAA's fourth annual Diversity and Inclusion Social Media Campaign, student-athletes, administrators, coaches and fans across the country to use their platform to create a dialogue surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion and to communicate the need for and importance of developing inclusive environments to enhance the student-athlete experience. Today's theme is "Championing Change" and we are putting the spotlight on three current student-athletes – David Marsh, Nathan Gosselin, and Brianna Torres – who are members of the department's Diversity and Social Justice Committee.

INTRODUCTION

David: I'm David Marsh, a graduate student majoring in Architecture, and a member of the men's volleyball team.
Nathan: I'm Nathan Gosselin, a senior majoring in Mechanical Engineering, and a member of the men's soccer team.
Brianna: I'm Brianna Torres, a senior majoring in Architecture, and a member of the women's lacrosse team.

WHAT CELEBRITY WOULD PLAY YOU IN A MOVIE?

David: Will Smith
Nathan: Ryan Gosling
Brianna: Tiffany Haddish

WHAT IS THE MOST USELESS TALENT YOU HAVE?

David: Moving my ears for sure. There's really no point haha.
Nathan: I'm really good at catching things that I have knocked over.
Brianna: I can do a really good impression of "Mort" from Madagascar.

WHAT DOES BEING A WENTWORTH LEOPARD MEAN TO YOU OR WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A WENTWORTH STUDENT ATHLETE?

David: Being a student-athlete means being a part of a family filled with love and support. You can reach out to anyone, and they'll be there for you in athletics. So I challenge Wentworth to be more compassionate and understanding towards students and faculty.
Nathan: To be a Wentworth student-athlete means representing your school and being a role model both on and off the field.
Brianna: Being a Wentworth student athlete means I get the opportunity to represent Wentworth on the field and in the classroom. I get to cheer on my peers come game time but also collaborate with them in a classroom or work setting and grow together as positive additions to the Wentworth community.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO "CHAMPION CHANGE?"

David: Being accepting of others as well as yourself, and really being honest with the way you treat others. There's too much negativity and hate that exists in the world. Let's challenge ourselves to spread more love.
Nathan: To "Champion Change" means taking a stance alongside your friends and teammates to help facilitate the change that others might not be able to facilitate by themselves.
Brianna: I believe "Champion Change" means working on yourself as an individual first, fostering what it means to be a true leader and always striving to do better and be better.
