Carlone Named Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

BOSTON, Mass. – Wentworth Institute of Technology announced the appointment of Zach Carlone to the position of Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. Senior Associate Athletic Director Bill Gorman made the announcement, which was effective September 26.

"We are very excited to have Zach join our Athletic Communications team," said Gorman. "His undergraduate work through his internships, combined with his time spent as a sports reporter have provided him valuable experience. This experience will make him an asset to our department as we promote our outstanding student-athletes."

Carlone joins the Leopards from Shore Publishing, LLC, in Connecticut, where he served as a Sports Reporter since January, 2022. With the company, Carlone was responsible for reporting and writing stories on high school sports for the Guilford Courier, North Haven Courier, and Harbor News newspapers and digital publications. Additionally, Carlone was tasked with reporting on Little League baseball teams for the respective regions throughout the summer season.

Prior to joining Shore Publishing, Carlone spent a year as a writer for Black N' Gold Productions LLC covering the Boston Bruins. With the multi-media production company, Carlone wrote breaking news and op-ed pieces covering Boston's NHL franchise.

As an undergraduate, Carlone did a pair of internships in both the American International College and Springfield College Athletic Communications Offices. At AIC in 2019, he assisted the gameday crew by tracking statistics, monitoring cameras, and supporting the livestream feeds for fall and winter contests. For his internship at Springfield in 2020, Carlone facilitated operations for the 'Day in History' project, a social media campaign that highlighted the last 50 years of Pride athletics.

A 2021 graduate of Springfield College with a Bachelor's degree in Communications/Sports Journalism and a minor in English, Carlone was a two-year member of the Springfield College club ice hockey team where he helped the program win their second-straight NECHA Colonial Conference Championship in 2018 and earn a bid into the ACHA Men's Division 3 Atlantic Regional Tournament for the first time in program history in 2019.

In his role as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, Carlone will assist Gorman with publicity for all 17 of the Leopards' teams, compiling and maintaining statistics and records, writing press releases and feature stories, creating content for the department's social media channels, and providing updates to the Wentworth Athletics website. He will also focus on promoting and implementing new initiatives within the athletic communications office.

"I'm extremely excited to join forces with Bill Gorman and the Wentworth Athletics department," said Carlone. "Wentworth Athletics is comprised of unique, devoted, and heart-driven student-athletes that display the very best of what Wentworth is all about. I've loved telling the stories and highlighting the careers of student-athletes in the past and can't wait to do so at such a special place in Wentworth. I want to thank the entire Athletics staff for granting me this opportunity and welcoming me with open arms. I can't wait to get to work."
