Endicott takes Two from Baseball

BEVERLY, Mass. – Opening the Commonwealth Coast Conference portion of its schedule, the Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball suffered a pair of setbacks at Endicott with t Gulls taking the first game, 4-3, and completing the sweep with an 8-2 win in the nightcap.

 

GAME ONE:  Endicott 4, Wentworth 3

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Freshman Michael Petit (Sandwich, Mass.) hit a one-out double in the top of the second which was followed by junior Matt Masciadrelli (Westfield, Mass.) being hit a pitch. Petit moved to third on a senior Aidan French (Chicago, Ill.) flyout and came home on a freshman Christian Peruzzi (Plymouth, Mass.) single which put Masciadrelli in scoring position. Masciadrelli went to third on a passed ball and scored on an RBI single from graduate student Dillon Koster (Woburn, Mass.) to make it 2-0.
  • Endicott cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third when senior Justin Bailey (Grafton, Mass.) drove in graduate student Vincent Walker (Burtonsville, Md.) with a sacrifice fly. The Leopards added to their lead in the top of the fourth when French hit a two-out single and came around to score on a double from Peruzzi.
  • The Gulls scored three times in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-3 lead. Senior Matthew Robida (Chester, Conn.), senior Matthew McKinley (Hudson, N.H.), and senior Kyle Brennan (Wallingford, Conn.) each had RBI singles.
  • Wentworth had a chance to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning. French led off with a single and with one out got himself in scoring position when he moved to second on a wild pitch. However, a strikeout and a fly out ended the game.
  • Sophomore Brandon Sullivan (Quincy, Mass.) took the loss (0-2) as he allowed four runs on six hits and struck out five in four innings of work. Junior Jacob Knowles (Concord, N.H.) struck out three in an inning of work while sophomore Jon Campbell (Snohomish, Wash.) pitched a scoreless seventh.


GAME TWO:  Endicott 8, Wentworth 2

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Masciadrelli led off the third inning with a double and went to third when Petit grounded out. He scored on a junior Nolan Freeman (Braintree, Mass.) sacrifice fly. French followed with a triple and came into score on a Peruzzi single, giving the Black & Gold a 2-0 lead.
  • Endicott scored four times in the home half of the inning to take a 4-2 lead. Sophomore Connor Blandini (Bow, N.H.) hit a two-run triple and scored on a Brennan home run. The Gulls added a run in the fourth on a freshman John Mulready (Peabody, Mass.) single in the fourth and upped their lead to 7-2 when sophomore Caleb Shpur (East Canaan, Conn.) hit a two-run home run.
  • The Gulls completed the scoring in the eighth when Walker drove in a run with a a groundout.
  • Six different players recorded a hit for the Leopards, including Peruzzi who also had an RBI. Junior Hunter Thornton (Old Lyme, Conn.) took the loss (0-1), allowing four runs on four hits in three innings of work.


ALL-TIME SERIES:

  • Today marked the 50th and 51st all-time meetings between the two programs with Endicott holding a 42-9 series advantage.
