DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College baseball team had a pair of student-athletes record two hits apiece, including senior Jim Marasco (Rochester, N.Y.) who drove in four runs as the Bison defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 16-5, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, as graduate student Nolan McManus (Milton, Mass.) hit a home run. With two outs, freshman Nick Cullinan (Sandy Hook, Conn.) drew a walk and came around to score when McManus hit his second home run of the season, tying him for the team lead. In the bottom of the first inning, the Leopards retired the first two Nichols batters, however, a double, an error, and a hit batter loaded the bases. From there the Bison scored five times, including on back-to-back two-run doubles.
  • Nichols added two runs in the second and third innings, taking a 9-2 lead before the Leopards got a run back in the top of the fourth. With two outs, freshman Matt Robinson (Mystic, Conn.) hit his first collegiate home run. The bottom of the inning saw the hosts score three times, coming on a sacrifice fly, a run scoring on a wild pitch, and an RBI single.
  • The Black & Gold scored a pair in the fifth inning, pulling to 12-5. Freshman Matthew Favazzo (Lexington, Mass.) led off with a single and went to second when sophomore Jake Prisco (Bridgewater, Mass.) was hit by a pitch. Junior Zach Smith (Madison, N.H.) singled, scoring Favazzo and moving Prisco to third. Prisco scored when he took home on a double play.
  • Five student-athletes recorded a hit for Wentworth, including McManus and Robinson. Freshman Connor Whitehead (Southington, Conn.) took the loss on the hill (0-3).
